CASTING NOTICE: FALL 2024 (PAID) 

SEEKING ADULT ACTORS TO PERFORM IN PLAYS FOR FAMILIES AND TOURING PRODUCTION

Help set the stage for all children to imagine and learn through play as an actor in the 2025 theatre season at the the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine (CMTM)!

ABOUT THE POSITION 

The Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine is seeking adult actors for two theatre opportunities for the fall portion of the 2024-2025 theatre season. These titles will be publicly shared at our Youth Playwright Festival in early June.


In person auditions will be held June 3 & 4, 2024 by appointment, and consist of theatre games, improvised scene work, and singing as necessary.
 

ROLES 

Theatre For Very Young Audiences (TVYA) Musical Production

Timeline

  • Rehearsals begin: early August, 2024

  • Performances: September 28 - October 13, 2024

  • Performances: Wednesdays through Sundays mornings, with two-show performance days on the weekends.

  • This play intends to tour to Maine Schools and Community Centers October 14 - November 26, 2024.

  • Tentative production calendar

Adult Roles

  • Role 1: A confident leader, comfortable with improvisation with audience

  • Role 2: A joyful friend, comfortable with improvisation with audience

  • Role 3: Cool, confident, and wise; comfortable with improvisation with audience

It is necessary for this story to be told by artists who identify as Black, Brown, Global Majority, and/or Indigenous Peoples. Only artists who align with these identities will be considered.

Intergenerational Production

Timeline

  • Rehearsals begin: October 28, 2024

  • Performances: December 7 - 29, 2024

  • Performances: Wednesdays through Sundays mornings, with two-show performance days on the weekend. Two-show performance days Thursday - Sunday of vacation week.

  • Tentative production calendar

Adult Roles

  • Role 1: A narrator, storyteller, and parental figure who doubles as a beloved best friend.

  • Role 2: A youthful best friend who doubles into a puppeteer.

  • Role 3: A youthful best friend who doubles into a puppeteer.

Note that intergenerational productions consist of adult and youth actors performing together. The Theatre Team plans to double cast all youth roles.

COMPENSATION 

Actors are paid for rehearsal and performance time. This is a part-time temporary position. $16/hour.  Actors earn PTO in accordance with Maine’s Earned Paid Leave law (1 hour for every 40 hours worked).

Actors work closely with the director, castmates and the theatre team. Actors report directly to the Theatre Production Manager. 

HOW TO AUDITION

Submission deadline is Friday, May 31 You will be asked to confirm conflicts with the production calendar(s) and provide a performance resume at the audition.
