Part-Time Exhibits Assistant
POSITION PURPOSE
Reporting to the Exhibits Manager, the Exhibits Assistant is responsible for the daily care and operation of indoor and outdoor exhibits, including ball and water play areas. Exhibits Assistants are integral to the daily operations of the Museum & Theatre as they ensure the exhibits are on and ready for visitors, they keep the exhibits running smoothly, they ensure exhibits are safe and clean for visitors, and they assist with the mechanical and carpentry needs of the team.
POSITION SUMMARY
Exhibit Maintenance & Cleaning:
routine maintenance of exhibits (i.e. vacuuming motors, scrubbing water tables,), and cleaning exhibit components, including daily laundry
routine exhibits checks to ensure exhibits are working properly, including daily water tests
follow all exhibits maintenance plans and schedules
Exhibits Repairs:
repair broken exhibits as they occur
secure broken exhibits to ensure safety of visitors
follow all exhibits repair plans and schedules
Opening & Closing Exhibits:
turn on & off exhibits
troubleshoot timer malfunctions as they arise
safety checks before visitors arrive and at the end of the day
Theatre Set Work:
support the load in of theatre sets as assigned
support the demo / load out of theatre sets as assigned
Exhibit Fabrication:
support the fabrication of new exhibit components as assigned
support the fabrication of activity components as needed (i.e. traveling displays, program supplies)
Maintaining a Clean and Safe Workplace:
ensure the fabrication shop is clean and organized at all times
ensure all workspaces are clean and tidy at all times
Visitor Connections:
When working on exhibits, explain or demonstrate the project to curious visitors
Meet the needs of visitors as they arise in relation to exhibits
Additional duties as identified by supervisor
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Experience working with children and families;
Knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical systems as pertaining to exhibits;
Experience and comfort using handheld power tools including but not limited to impact driver, power drill, sander, grinder, etc
Adept at problem-solving simple repairs, including those requiring handheld tool use
Ability to adhere to maintenance schedules
Demonstrated ability to maintain a clean, safe work environment
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to lift 50 lbs
Ability to climb ladders up to 16’ high
Ability to climb into exhibit components to work and clean in confined exhibit spaces
Ability to navigate uneven terrain

SCHEDULE
Part-time, hourly position. 21 hours per week: Tuesday 11-3; Friday 8-4:30; Saturday 8-4:30. Occasional per-diem hours for special evening events.
COMPENSATION
$19.19 / hour plus $5,250 annual benefit pay.
Benefit pay can be used toward a cafeteria plan of benefits including health insurance (2 options, HSA available), dental insurance, vision insurance, life insurance, short & long-term disability, critical illness insurance, accident insurance, 4013B (retirement) plan contributions, 529 (education) plan contributions, and/or HSA (health savings) contributions.
Benefit pay may also be taken as pay in lieu of benefits.

CMTM has an equitable pay system that offers a base rate based on position, longevity pay increases over time, merit-based raise opportunities, and cost-of-living base wage updates. This system is designed for equity, and as such, we do not have the ability to negotiate the compensation listed above.
