Do you love acting? Do you want to perform in a play alongside professional adult actors? Would you like to perform a show many times for thousands of families and school groups?

The Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine is seeking young actors (ages 10+) for two intergenerational theatre productions that will be staged this spring, 2023. The schedules are rigorous. Actors are expected to commit to the calendar and all young actors will be double cast in both productions.

If you’ve never auditioned before, don’t worry! Our audition process is designed with the first time auditioner in mind. We begin with theatre games and read some scenes from the play in small groups. For musicals, we ask that you sing a song you love. The director may ask you to come back for callbacks to hear you read again before making final casting decisions.

Intergenerational productions are opportunities for young and adult actors to perform together. All adults in the play are fully vaccinated and background checked. This is a unique opportunity for young actors to be mentored by adult actors and participate in a professional theatre environment.

Gruff!

Concept and Text by Ora Fruchter and Stoph Scheer. Music by Toby Singer.
Directed by Emily M. Dixon
Rehearsals begin the week of March 5
Performances run April 14 - May 14, 2023

The goats are about to run out of food in the toxic wasteland they call home. Gruff, a young goat, sets out with her siblings on a mission to find a flower, which they’ve never seen before. Gruff discovers the hidden and magical Troll Valley, the only place left on Earth where natural plant growth is treasured and protected. But when the Goat Elders find out that plants (and trolls!) still exist, they set out to take the resources for themselves. Can Trolls and Goats overcome their differences to work together and save the planet before it’s too late? Hilarity ensues in this contemporary retelling of a classic children’s story, filled with catchy music, knee-slapping jokes, and a journey you won’t forget.

Auditions will be held: Thursday February 9th 3:45-5pm

Auditions will consist of reading sides from the play, learning a dance as a group, and singing approximately one minute of a song of your choice. We recommend wearing clothes you feel comfortable moving in!

Roles:

GRUFF: A young goat. She is rambunctious, eccentric, curious, and loving.

GRIF: A young goat. She is GRUF's oldest sibling. Dominant, rule-abiding, and quasi-militaristic.

CLANCY: A young goat. He is GRIF and GRUF’s middle sibling. Innocent, niave, bumbling, focuses on one thing at a time. nostalgic has-been and consummate follower.

Please note: Experience singing in a three-part harmony a plus.
Experience reading music a plus.
All actors except Gruff will play multiple parts.
