Come experience the Children's Museum & Theatre of Maine during a low-key, inclusive playtime for children with sensory integration challenges. Play in our exhibits during a quiet time and meet other families from the community. This is the perfect time for families affected by Autism, Down syndrome, Sensory Processing Disorder, PTSD or other challenges to try out the Museum & Theatre. Museum & Theatre Educators will be available to support your family.
This month, join us for a special music performance by multi-genre string quartet, Invoke. They’ll share a special performance called Azure that has been designed specifically for people with cognitive disabilities of all ages and walks of life, and those close to that community.
Azure is a joyful event, free of judgement and traditional concert hall norms, where the whole family can enjoy a high-quality concert experience. Invoke will create a sensory-friendly space where all can interact with the music in any way they feel - movement, vocalizations, and reactions of all types are welcome. They curate a program at a high artistic level that meets the needs of those with cognitive disabilities. Move or dance in any direction! They provide a wide array of fun tactile fidgets (feather boas, stress balls, etc.) to provide relief and to help keep the audience engaged and excited. Earplugs or noise cancelling headphones are also available on request.
Only a limited number of visitors will be admitted to ensure a calm and welcoming play environment. Now FREE thanks to our long-time partner WEX! To register, call 207-828-1234, stop by the front desk, or RSVP online. Question? Contact Lily@kitetails.org or 207-828-1234 x227
This special performance is brought to the Museum & Theatre through a partnership with the Portland Chamber Music Festival.
