Bethie Fowler: Theatre Alumni Spotlight
We are so excited to reconnect with CTM alumni Bethie Fowler, and share her story with you.
Bethie Fowler is a theater artist who has worked with Atlantic Theater Company, Elephant Run District, and Columbia University in New York, and RTE Broadcasting, Players Theatre, and the Samuel Beckett Theatre in Dublin, Ireland. “CTM shaped my future in so many ways! It’s where I met my future husband, made lifelong friends, and started on a path to a career in theater,” said Bethie.
She earned an MFA in Playwrighting from Stony Brook University and an MA in Drama and Theatre from Trinity College Dublin. She lives in Westbrook, Maine with her husband Andrew and their daughter Ellie.
What plays were you in at the Children’s Theatre of Maine?
I was in too many plays to list out, but a few highlights include playing Alice in Alice in Wonderland, Mary Warren in The Crucible, Kate in Taming of the Shrew, and Rosalind in As You Like It.
What would you tell future actors at the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine?
I would tell future actors that the saying “there are no small roles, only small actors” is so true! I had just as much fun playing villager number 3 in Strega Nona in a school cafeteria as I had starring in The Importance of Being Earnest in front of hundreds of people. If you give a play your whole heart you’re guaranteed to shine onstage
You can listen to Bethie’s play Zelda and Scott here: https://elephantrundistrict.org/herd-podcast/
Read by actors Edward Bauer and Mia Jessup in front of a live audience.
Zelda & Scott is about the Jazz Age literary celebrities F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald. It’s a fast paced and unexpected portrait of a much studied and biographied pair as they meet, marry and travel the world together.
