In honor of the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th amendment that gave women the right to vote and in honor of Women’s History Month, the Museum & Theatre is celebrating with music, stories, art, and a pop-up voting booth for visitors of all ages to exercise their voice and their vote. We are excited to invite you to explore the life of Margaret Wise Brown, author of Goodnight Moon, as we read The Important Thing about Margaret Wise Brown by Mac Barnette; then write or draw your own wonderfully unique story. We also want to gather all dreamers to read Mae Among the Stars by Roda Ahmed and make a constellation art piece inspired by your dreams and aspirations. Or become a painting artist like Georgia O’Keeffe and paint large, colorful flowers. And don’t forget to join Portland’s Women in Harmony - who will dress as suffragettes and perform songs about suffrage and justice.

All programs offered are free with admission

The Music for Many Project: Women in Harmony

In honor of Women’s History Month and the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th amendment that gave women the right to vote, join Portland’s Women in Harmony for songs about suffrage and justice. This performance is made possible by the generous support of the Onion Foundation.

Meet the Masters: Georgia O’Keeffe

Georgia O’Keeffe knew she wanted to be an artist when she was just ten years old. She loved to create giant depictions of the natural world so people had to stop and notice the beauty of flowers, rocks, clouds, and bones. In honor of Women’s History month, explore the process of painting large, colorful flowers just like Georgia O’Keeffe.

The Librarian of Basra Shadow Puppet Story

In honor of Women’s History Month, come share a story of struggle and bravery as we hear how one woman saved ancient books during the Iraq war. This story shares themes of war and may not be suitable for toddlers and preschoolers.
