Onstage and Off: Theatre Together Online Series

On the heels of our first ten-day Maine Youth Playwriting Challenge, we’ve decided to keep going! The response to the playwriting challenge was overwhelming with two dozen participants from one end of Maine to the other. Now we want to keep the online children’s community going with our “Onstage and Off: Theatre Together Online” series. We will be livestreaming every day on facebook at 3:30 PM. If you miss a session, don’t worry. We are publishing all of our online educational programs at www.kitetails.org/online.

We may not be in rehearsal together, but that doesn’t mean we can’t keep playing and taking new risks. In place of daily rehearsals, our Theatre Educators will host a variety of different activities every day to inspire creativity and the performing arts right in your own living room. Learn how to develop character, design lights, make props and more.

Monday March 30 at 3:30pm: Monologue Monday

What’s a monologue? Why do actors need these? How am I supposed to learn all that!? Every week, we will answer these questions, break down a new monologue to learn, or work on writing our own monologues. Build your confidence and repertoire so you’re always ready for your next audition. Share your monologue progress with us, or send a request to the Theatre Education Team!

Tuesday March 31 at 3:30pm: Lighting Design

Have you ever wondered how stage lighting works for a play? By using lamps and flashlights, you can create a well-lit performing space in your own living room! Learn about light direction, color and how to make your own GoBo (and what a GoBo is!) in today’s live video.

Wednesday April 1 at 3:30pm: Virtual Improv Games: Alien Interpreter

Beat that mid-week slump with some theatre games!  We will learn 1-2 new games that you can play at home with your families - or even virtually with your friends. Theatre games are about saying YES and embracing your imagination, while following some (often very silly) rules. Let the Theatre Education team know if you have any favorite game requests!

Thursday April 2 at 3:30pm: Prop Making: Old Fashioned Letters and Treasure Maps

What is a prop? Why are they important in plays? Learn all about the world of props and how to make old fashioned letters and treasure maps in this week’s prop making workshop!

Friday April 3 at 3:30pm: Yoga for Actors

Take a deep breath and clear your mind for an afternoon yoga break that helps strengthen your tools as an actor. We will move through poses that enhance balance, breath support, and keeping ourselves ground, while also telling some stories with our bodies. No experience required, but be ready to release some giggles.

Saturday April 4 at 3:30pm Shadow Puppet Play

Attend a virtual Shadow Puppet Play of your favorite stories. First up: The 3 Little Pigs!
