CASTING NOTICE: SUMMER 2025 (PAID) 

SEEKING ADULT ACTORS TO PERFORM IN PLAY FOR FAMILIES

Help set the stage for all children to imagine and learn through play as an actor in the upcoming theatre season at the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine (CMTM)!

ABOUT THE POSITION 

The Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine is seeking adult actors for acting opportunities for the summer portion of the 2025-2026 theatre season. NAKED MOLE RAT GETS DRESSED: THE ROCK EXPERIENCE —book and Lyrics by Mo Willems, Music by Deborah Wicks La Puma.

Actors report directly to the Theater Production Manager.


Auditions will be accepted via virtual submission through May 7, 2025. Actors must submit an Audition Form, and a member of the theatre team will provide the submission prompt.
 

SCHEDULE

  • Rehearsals begin: May 27, 2025

  • Performances: July 12 - August 17, 2025

  • Performances: Saturdays and Sundays, two-show performance days

  • Note that this show will run in rep with BABY SHARK through the summer.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS

  • Actor A: Wilbur J. Mole Rat, Jr. - Wilbur is the dreamer, always looking at the clouds when everyone else has tunnel vision. Sees the best (dressed) in everyone. Vocal range top: A4 - bottom: A2


  • Actor B: Grande Mole Rat and H&M Singer - Grande is the popular kid and, consequently, the one with the most to lose. Any shift in the culture could threaten Grande's social dominance. Vocal range top: E5 - bottom: A3


  • Actor C: Venti Mole Rat and H&M Singer - Venti is the enforcer. The colony is a tricky place to understand, and now that Venti does, the mole rat is scared of having to re-discover a new place in it. 

    • Vocal range top: E4 - bottom: E2


  • Actor D: Tall Mole Rat and H&M Singer - Tall is a rule-follower with a heart of gold. Cannot reconcile the non-naked rules with her conscience and naked decency. 

    • Vocal range top: B5 - bottom: B3


  • Actor E: Grand-Pah Mole Rat, Stark Naked, Naked Mole Rat 4, H&M Singer, and Announcer

    • Grand-Pah is the moral authority, who is less interested in pomp than in figuring out how to solve problems. Intimidating in the abstract, dyspeptic, and really old in reality. 

    • Stark Naked is one of the panicked spreaders of information and misinformation. They represent the mood of the larger tunnel culture. 

    • Vocal range top: G4 - bottom: E3


  • Actor F: Weather Mole, Naked Mole Rat 5, H&M Singer, Potential Customer, and Secret Service

    • Weather Mole is one of the panicked spreaders of information and misinformation. They represent the mood of the larger tunnel culture.

    • Secret Service Mole is dead serious, who quickly and magically transforms into a Hendrix/Joplin rocker, then back to dead serious. 

    • Vocal range top: G5 - bottom: A#3

Understudies: The theatre team intends to cast two understudies, who will be responsible for learning three tracks each.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF WORKPLACE / ROLE

  • High-energy performances take place twice a day, two days in a row

  • It is expected that lines, songs, and choreography will be memorized

  • Choreography may include kneeling, squatting, jumping, and reaching. Blocking may include sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, and running.

  • There is a dark blue light backstage and bright lights onstage. 

  • Noise level varies between loud during musical numbers and quiet when backstage.

  • Actors may be asked to assist with scene changes as needed.

COMPENSATION 

Actors are paid for rehearsal and performance time. This is a part-time, temporary position—$ 18.23/hour. Actors earn PTO in accordance with Maine’s Earned Paid Leave law (1 hour for every 40 hours worked).

Actors work closely with the director, castmates, and the theatre team. Actors report directly to the Theatre Production Manager.

Submission deadline is Wednesday, May 7. You will be asked to confirm conflicts with the production calendar(s) and provide a performance resume at the audition.
