CMTM Leads Maine in "Museums for All" Access Initiative

CMTM Leads Maine in “Museums for All” Access Initiative

Museums for All is a national initiative that makes cultural experiences accessible to everyone. It offers discounted admission to individuals receiving government assistance, such as SNAP, EBT, or state healthcare. More than 850 museums across the U.S. participate, including ten here in Maine. This program helps ensure that financial barriers don’t stand in the way of families enjoying valuable experiences at museums, fostering a lifelong love of learning and exploration.

At the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine (CMTM), we’re proud to offer $1 admission through Museums for All. This discounted rate applies to all members of a qualifying visitor’s group, including those using MaineCare, WIC, SNAP, or other public assistance. In fiscal year 2024, CMTM saw a significant increase in the number of visitors using the Museums for All discount, with more uses than any other institution in Maine. This growth underscores the rising need in our community and the increasing awareness of the program’s benefits.

While we are honored to serve so many families, the surge in participation has created challenges, as the discount places additional pressure on our budget. Thanks to the generous support of the Lunder Foundation, the Museums for All program will see significant support for the next three years.

With demand continuing to rise for the Museums for All program and all of our discount programs, such as our Veteran and Active Duty Military discount and our Scholarship Membership program, CMTM will need further community support to ensure the long-term accessibility of the Museum & Theatre. Should you, your employer, or your foundation be interested in supporting accessibility initiatives at CMTM, please contact Development Director Mariah Healy at development@kitetails.org

Offering this discount aligns with CMTM’s mission to remove barriers that prevent families from taking full advantage of our new facility at Thompson’s Point. We strive to be a place where everyone feels welcome to come as they are and celebrate what makes us each unique. The Museums for All program is just one of the many ways we work to make CMTM accessible to everyone.

To use the Museums for All, simply walk in at your preferred arrival time. Upon arrival, you will be asked to present your MaineCare, WIC, EBT, or other public assistance card at the front desk to receive $1 admission for everyone in your group.
