Part-Time Visitor Services Assistant Manager

POSITION PURPOSE

The Visitor Services Assistant Manager is responsible for creating a welcoming and safe environment for visitors and supporting CMTM’s interdepartmental team of forward-facing staff to carry out their daily tasks in collaboration with the Manager on Duty.

POSITION SUMMARY

  •  Works to create a welcoming and safe environment so visitors of all identities, socioeconomic status, abilities, or home languages feel that they belong at CMTM 

  • Serves on Visitor Engagement leadership team with 2-3 days of full front of house leadership duties (in collaboration with a Manager or Director) that extend beyond the Visitor Services team: supporting daily forward-facing staff to ensure visitor activities and events run smoothly; replying to visitor questions and concerns on the floors and at front desk; opening and closing; and responding to first aid and other critical emergencies 

  • Assists teams on an as-needed basis, including the Visitor Service team by providing lobby support and door security; Visitor Program team with MakerSpace and other programming support, Exhibits and Live exhibits with safety checks and program support, Theatre team with ushering, and Building & Grounds with clean-ups and facilities checks 

  • Works collaboratively with other department leadership, communicating regarding daily activities, events, facilities checks, team schedules, and day-to-day team support 

  • Supports daily forward-facing staff during special events, including Dino Egg Hunt, Family Halloween, New Year’s Eve, Dino Days, Solstice, and other special celebrations 

  • Conduct 3-4 floor checks per day 

  • Supports forward-facing volunteers 

  • Participates in various forms of professional development 

  • Participates in annual reviews 

  • Support CMTM’s Strategic Plan and Goals through actions as identified by the team and supervisor 

  • Perform other duties as identified by supervisor

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • At least 2-3 years of hospitality experience 

  • At least 2 years experience working with families and children ages 0-14

  • Comfortable speaking and engaging with large groups of people of various ages ● Ability to work two weekend days each week 

  • First Aid/CPR training and comfort with first aid emergencies 

  • Comfortable with e-mail and Microsoft office suite 

  • Experience with Altru, Blackbaud, or other POS systems a plus

  • Multilingualism a plus

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF WORKPLACE / ROLE

  •  Ability to lift up to 30lbs 

  • Regularly required to move about the facility, including going up and down stairs

  • Regularly required to move quickly to respond to first aid incidents

  • Regularly required to crouch or kneel for short periods of time 

  • The noise level in the workplace is usually moderate

SCHEDULE

24 hours per week, typically Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 8:30-4:30.

Attends All Staff Meeting and team meetings (2-3 hours per month on Tuesdays, hybrid options available).

COMPENSATION

$25.00 per hour plus $6,000 annual benefit pay which can be used toward a cafeteria plan of benefits including health insurance (2 options, HSA available), dental insurance, vision insurance, life insurance, short & long-term disability, critical illness insurance, accident insurance, 403B (retirement) plan contributions, and/or HSA contributions. Benefit pay may also be taken as pay in lieu of benefits.

CMTM has an equitable system of pay that offers a base rate based on position, longevity pay increases over time. This system is designed for equity and as such we do not have the ability to negotiate the compensation listed above.
