Part-Time Education Program Associate (Environmental Education Focus)
POSITION PURPOSE
The Education Program Associate leads and supports environmental science and live animal programming for daily visitor families with children ages 2-10 and outreach audiences including daycares, schools, and community centers. Reporting to the Education Program Manager, this position is a critical part of the Education and Exhibits Team and works closely with the Visitor Program Team.
POSITION SUMMARY
Develop and lead new environmental, live animal, and watershed-focused programs for daily visitors, including programs specifically designed for children ages 2-10
Produce and lead in-house and outreach environmental science activities for daycares, schools, rec groups, Girl Scouts, and other groups as needed
Utilize best practices in experiential education and interactive museum experiences
Lead aquarium and animal programming
Supports Live Exhibits department by monitoring the health of animals as assigned
Participate in a culture of reflection and evaluation through peer review and team program design processes
Support CMTM’s Strategic Plan and Goals through actions as identified by the team and supervisor
Perform other duties as identified by supervisor, including weekly floor check, leading interdisciplinary programming, programming for evening rentals, and support for large events
Assist the training of interns, volunteers, and assistants
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Experience leading informal education programming
Experience working with children ages 2-10
Experience in environmental science or teaching freshwater or saltwater ecosystems preferred
Expertise in child development and/or education preferred
Expertise in classroom management
Comfortable speaking and engaging with groups of people of various ages
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
ESOL Level 4+
Comfortable with e-mail, Google Suite, and Microsoft Office Suite

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF WORKPLACE / ROLE
Regularly required to crouch or kneel for short periods of time
Ability to stand for up to two hours at a time
Ability and comfort working with animals
Ability to have hands in 50-degree water for moderate intervals (2-5 minutes) ● Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
Ability to climb ladders up to 6 feet
The noise level in the workplace is usually moderate

SCHEDULE

Non-summer / non-vacation week hours
Thursday 9-2:00, Friday 9-4:00, Sunday 9-3:30, Monday 9-3:30
Summer/vacation week hours
Thursday 9-1:00, Friday 9-4:00, Sunday 9-3:30, Monday 9-4:30
COMPENSATION
$20.88 / hour plus $6,250 annual benefit pay which can be used toward a cafeteria plan of benefits including health insurance (2 options, HSA available), dental insurance, vision insurance, life insurance, short & long-term disability, critical illness insurance, accident insurance, 403b (retirement) plan contributions, and/or HSA contributions. Benefit pay may also be taken as pay in lieu of benefits.

CMTM has an equitable system of pay that offers a base rate based on position, longevity pay increases over time. This system is designed for equity and as such we do not have the ability to negotiate the compensation listed above.
