APOLLO TO THE MOON teaches us the importance of imagining what could be.
— Robbie Harrison

APOLLO TO THE MOON is all about one boy’s dream about reaching the moon. We have to ask, what's your favorite thing about outer space!?

It has to be the moon. I love the moon. There’s this song called “The Seal Lullaby” (which I performed in choir), and it’s about a mama seal comforting her baby seal, and there’s this one line where the choir holds out the “ooo” sound in the line, “The moon, o’er the combers, looks downward to find us, at rest” and whenever I see the moon I sing that line aloud. I like to sing.

One of my sister’s and my favorite Disney Channel Original Movies was Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century (which actually came out in 1999). It’s about a teenager who lives on a space station.

This is a one person show! What’s it like being the only actor on stage?

Being the only actor on stage is not as different as I thought it would be. I just have to be more creative about who or what my scene partner is! Maybe they’re invisible. Maybe they’re a part of my imagination. Maybe they’re the audience. I am excited to connect with the drive that my character Scott, has to accomplish his goals. And to act like I’m walking on the moon!

My most favorite acting challenge has been exploring Scott’s physical characteristics. Luckily, as a director, Michael talks about physicality in a way that I understand and get excited about, like when the energy wants to build and then release. For example, once Michael asked me to actually become a rocket!

Why is APOLLO TO THE MOON an important story to tell in Maddy's Theatre?

The play is about possibilities. And aren’t there many possibilities in this re-birth of the Children’s Theatre with Maddy’s Theatre!? APOLLO TO THE MOON teaches us the importance of imagining what could be.

It is always more dynamic performing for children. But the twist is that we are all children.
