The Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine (Portland) announces the appointment of Shultzie Fay Willows to the role of Director of Communications & Marketing.

In Willows’ new role, she will be responsible for oversight of the Museum’s communications and marketing, helping to set, guide, and implement the overall vision and strategic plan for the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine.

She joins the Museum & Theatre as it enters a second year at its new location at Thompson’s Point in Portland. Her responsibilities will range from executing multimedia strategies, producing content across communications channels, and ultimately helping visitors and stakeholders take advantage of the Museum & Theatre facility, programs, and services.

“Shultzie’s background and passion for our mission make her an excellent fit for our organization,” said Museum & Theatre Executive Director Julie Butcher Pezzino. “For the past three years, the Museum & Theatre has worked tirelessly to manifest, build, and welcome the community to our new home, adding programs and infrastructure to support that vision as we went. As we settle into our new home at Thompson’s Point, our goal now is to pave the road for the future and refine our strategic plan and vision. Shultzie’s role will be instrumental in helping to align our messaging, marketing, and brand, ensuring we continue to create a space where everyone belongs.”

Previously, Willows served as Director of Marketing and Communications with United Way of Southern Maine and, before moving back to Maine, as Community Engagement Director with Lydia Place, a nonprofit serving families experiencing homelessness in the Pacific Northwest. In addition, Shultzie owned and operated The Paperdoll, a series of retail boutiques featuring handmade artisans, and had a meaningful career in children's television and multi-media development, outreach, and production.

Shultzie holds a B.A. in Communications from The Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA, an M.A. in Communications from the School of Telecommunications from Ohio University in Athens, OH, and certifications in board and leadership development and puppetry arts.

Willows shared, “I am overjoyed to be part of the Museum & Theatre and to leverage my marketing, communications, and storytelling background to help create a safe, welcoming, and imaginative space for children and their caregivers.”
