Tips for Visiting CMTM

Tips for Visiting CMTM

Planning a trip to the Children's Museum & Theatre of Maine (CMTM)? Whether it’s your first or your tenth time visiting, we've got you covered with some tips to help make your time at CMTM as smooth and enjoyable as possible!

How to Park:

There is ample parking on Thompson’s Point. Please note that CMTM does not operate or manage parking. The entirety of Thompson’s Point is in parking zone 1213. All parking is pay-to-park and managed by Thompson’s Point. Parking is monitored 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. The rate is $2 an hour. Plan ahead and download the Passport Parking mobile app. https://www.passportparking.com/.  Thompson’s Point is zone 1213.  You can also use a credit card or coins (coins accepted at designated locations) at parking meter machines.

What to Bring:

Between water play, painting, and sand exploration, there’s a high potential for messy fun — we recommend bringing a change of clothes just in case. We also recommend bringing sunscreen to keep skin protected during outdoor play, especially in the summer months. Lost something during your visit? We keep lost and found items at the front desk for at least one week. Please call 207-828-1234, ext. 231. For health reasons, we do not retain heavily soiled clothes, food, sippy cups, water bottles, or pacifiers.

What to Leave:

Space for strollers is extremely limited, and we recommend not bringing one, if possible. We recommend only families with babies, young toddlers, and children with accessibility needs use strollers. There is limited space to store strollers in the coat room on the 1st floor. Please collapse your stroller to conserve space. Strollers in the exhibits cannot be larger than 31’’ (79 cm) and 52 ’’ (132 cm). Wagons and “stroller wagons” are not allowed. All accessibility devices are allowed (no size restrictions). Please do not leave anything of value unattended. We do not have lockers or monitored storage areas, and CMTM is not responsible for lost or stolen items. For more information regarding our rules of admission, please visit https://www.kitetails.org/rules-of-admission

Where to Eat:

Food and drink are permitted in the 1st Floor Atrium, Outdoor Adventure exhibits, Gather Lawn, and in some areas on the 3rd floor (please check signage). The exceptions are that you may bring your own water, baby bottles, and nursing, of course. There is no eating or drinking in Maddy’s Theatre. CMTM has a snack shack with a limited menu for purchase. Here on Thompson’s Point, we are fortunate to have Bissell Brothers and Sacred Profane as neighbors, both of whom serve food. Members of CMTM who present their membership card when purchasing food items at Sacred Profane even receive a 10% discount!

What We Hope You Feel:

We believe each person has value and worth; we celebrate what makes each of us unique and what binds us together as a strong community. We hope that when you are here, you feel a sense of belonging and a freedom to play, create, and learn. Every child belongs at CMTM!
