SpinS: A One Person Circus Show (Opening Show!)

  • The Children's Museum & Theatre of Maine 250 Thompson's Point Road Portland, ME 04102 (map)

Maddy’s Theatre presents: SpinS, a One-Person Circus Show running February 20-26th

A wildly dizzying whirl of juggling, magic & movement, puppetry, circus & socks…totally tangled together! A pajama-clad unicyclist careens on stage, suitcase in tow. Unpacking, he introduces the audience to a whimsical world of clothes-pin towers and erratic toothbrushes. SpinS one person circus show weaves circus, dance and puppetry into entertaining and mind-bending performances for all ages.

This one person circus show is appropriate for audiences of all ages. The performer is vaccinated and boosted and will be performing without wearing a mask.

About the performer:

Janoah anygoodjokes? Bailin learned to unicycle in the empty after-hours corridors of his middle school. He continued practicing with the Suspenders Juggling Troupe in Falmouth (MA), dropped countless objects in his back yard, then traveled New England for two seasons with the Circus Smirkus Big Top Tour, where he dropped slightly less often.

Janoah graduated in 2014 from College of the Atlantic in Maine, where he grasped at and fumbled with performance-related studies: theater, movement, objects, puppets, film, literature, carnival, gender, etc.

In past summers Janoah has taught the precarious skills of letting things fall and picking them up at the Payomet Performing Arts Center in Truro (MA). He now instructs students near Portland (ME) how to juggle, perform and drop things playfully. He currently coaches and choreographs the Gym Dandies Children's Circus of Scarborough. He also helps organize programming for The Living Room Dance Collective in Portland.

Janoah tours two evening-length solo shows (SpinS & meSSeS) that weave circus, dance and puppetry into entertaining and mind-bending performances for all ages. He presents variety arts for stages, festivals and parades all over New England, leaving behind a wake of tumbled juggling props!

Audience members age 2+ must wear a mask or appropriate facial covering during the performance. The Museum & Theatre will be seating Maddy's Theatre at limited capacity, and encouraging families to put an empty seat between family groups. Currently, we allow only one family in the viewing gallery at a time.

We are committed to making Maddy's Theatre as welcoming as possible. If you'd like to reserve one of the following accommodations, or have questions about further accommodations, please email boxoffice@kitetails.org.
