A message from CMTM Executive Director Julie Butcher Pezzino.
Friends,
As we enter the vibrant month of June, a time when love, acceptance, and inclusion take center stage, I wanted to emphasize the significance of belonging and the importance of creating an environment where everyone feels they truly belong.
At the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine, we create a safe and nurturing space for children to learn, explore, and grow. We embrace diversity in all its forms and recognize the significance of teaching our future generations about love, tolerance, and respect for every individual, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression.
Because our values are steeped in belonging, we do not tolerate threats, attacks, or misinformation in our building or on our social platforms, which are largely read by parents and caregivers, and, in some cases, children. Such behavior has no place in our organization or in our community. We will do everything in our power to protect our team, visitors, and those we love to ensure their safety.
Celebrating Pride is about more than just rainbow flags and colorful parades. It is an opportunity to instill in our children the values of acceptance, empathy, and understanding. By engaging children in conversations about the importance of equality and embracing differences, we nurture a sense of belonging that transcends barriers.
At our Museum & Theatre, we strive to create an inclusive environment that reflects the diverse world we live in. We believe that everyone deserves to feel seen, respected, and valued for who they are. By promoting LGBTQIA+ inclusion, we send a powerful message that love knows no boundaries and that everyone has a right to be treated with dignity and respect.
