Museum & Theatre announces Flying Colors: 2022 Benefit Art Auction

The Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine announces its first in-person major fundraising event since opening the new building on Thompson’s Point: Flying Colors: 2022 Benefit Art Auction!

Flying Colors: 2022 Benefit Art Auction will welcome event participants on Friday, May 13, from 6pm to 9pm. This 21+ event will give guests young at heart the opportunity to explore all 3 floors of exhibits, participate in fun art activities, bid on exceptional pieces of art by local Maine artists, and enjoy delicious food and drinks. For the first time this Benefit Auction will take place within the Museum & Theatre building itself, providing a rare chance for adults to explore the building and at the same time discover the amazing work by local Maine artists, displayed through the building.

The Art Auction theme “Flying Colors” is a nod to the Museum & Theatre’s first year on Thompson’s Point and the diverse programming that has been possible in the new space. Building and opening a new Museum & Theatre building during the Covid-19 pandemic proved particularly challenging, as the organization grew in staff, visitors, and capacity. Thanks to the support and determination of the Museum & Theatre’s Staff, Board of Directors, Advisory Council, Capital Campaign donors, and greater community, the Organization rose to the challenge with flying colors, opening new exhibits, introducing new programming, and growing partnerships.

The Art Auction theme reflects The Museum & Theatre’s devotion to the transformative power of the arts in developing children’s understanding and expression of the world around them. Exploring identity through art fosters creativity and ingenuity and is essential to healthy development. Research shows that people who visit cultural organizations as children are more likely to visit as adults; furthermore, they are more likely to be active in their communities and volunteer as adults. Data emphasizes the importance of engaging children under the age of 13 in cultural experiences. The Museum & Theatre offers unique family-friendly cultural experiences through performing arts, art gallery appreciation, dress-up theatre, an experiential arts studio, and musical performances.

Art lovers, and supporters of the Museum & Theatre are invited to attend. Proceeds from the Art Auction will support our Community Fund, which helps to break down barriers children and families might face in taking full advantage of our facility, including free and subsidized admission to our hands-on exhibits and educational programs regardless of visitors’ ability to pay. The Community Fund ensures all children have access to Museum & Theatre programming, including vital arts programming.

This event will highlight and celebrate the Museum & Theatre’s role as an arts-focused community resource, and will feature a silent auction with over 100 diverse works by local Maine artists. Artwork in a wide range of price points and mediums will be available for auction. The Events Planning Committee collaborates with artists to decide an opening bid price and artists are offered up to 50% commission, ensuring that artists receive the compensation desired.

We welcome any interest in sponsoring this exciting event. In addition to exposure to our anticipated 300+ event attendees, sponsorship of this event will offer corporate partners high visibility, value alignment with an innovative, educational and cultural resource for children and families, and provide vital educational experiences in our community. Sponsorship opportunities are available at multiple levels and we would be happy to discuss a partnership that fits your business' needs.
