Children's Museum and Theatre of Maine Adjusts Policies to New Phase of Pandemic
March 8, 2022
Dear Visitors & Members,
Last week the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) moved Cumberland County and the entire State of Maine to the designation of "medium" community level for COVID-19. As a result of these changing conditions, I wanted to share with you the Museum & Theatre’s updated masking policy.
As an institution that listens to content experts and follows science, we have been committed to mirroring CDC guidance as it pertains to our decisions around the spread of COVID 19, including masking.
Given the new CDC recommendations, as of Friday, March 11, 2022 we will make the following changes:
Masking will be recommended but not required indoors for visitors aged 2 & up attending the majority of our play sessions and theatre shows;
The Museum & Theatre will host two weekly “mask required” sessions for visitors - on Thursday mornings and Sunday mornings. We will also host at least one “mask required” performance per week over the course of each theatre production. Everyone in attendance aged 2 & up at these play sessions and performances must be masked;
Masking will continue to be required for all staff when interfacing with the public during open hours, with the exception of theatre performers;
Food and drink will be permitted in the building, but in the first floor atrium only. Visitors are also welcome to continue to bring food and drink to the picnic tables and benches at our outdoor playground and Gather Lawn.
Moving forward, the Museum & Theatre will adjust its masking policy according to the "levels" identified by the CDC for Cumberland County. For example, if the designation returns to a "high" transmission level, then we will require masks indoors for ages 2 & up. Whenever these changes occur and become effective, they will be posted on our Covid Procedures web page.
Thank you in advance for your kindness to and understanding of our staff as we continue to navigate the many changes brought about by COVID 19. I look forward to seeing you and your family soon at the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine.
Warmly,
Executive Director Julie Butcher Pezzino
